BOE holds interest rate at 5.00%. US Jobless claims fall.
The BOE decided hold its interest rate unchanged at 5.00 percent for the third month in a row as widely expected by market forecasts. The BOE had decreased its interest rate by 25 basis points in both February and April of this year. The minutes of the meeting will be published on July 23rd.
US weekly jobless claims fall.
Weekly U.S. jobless claims decreased in the week that ended on July 5th according to the U.S. Labor Department today. Jobless claims totaled 346,000 unemployed workers, a decline of 58,000 from 404,000 unemployed workers the week prior. A 4-week moving average fell by 10,000 from the prior week to 380,500.
Workers continuing claims for unemployment benefits for the week ending June 28th increased by 91,000 workers to 3,202,000, down from the week before which saw a revised 3,111,000. A four week moving average of continuing claims increased 16,500 from last week to 3,126,000. Last week's moving average registered 3,109,500.
