U.S. Weekly Jobless Claims increased by 19,000.
U.S. new jobless claims increased by 19,000 people in the week ending February 23rd to a seasonally adjusted total of 373,000 according to data released by the U.S. Labor Department. The prior week had registered a revised total of 354,000 claims. A four week moving average of unemployment claims showed a decrease of 1,250 workers to a rate of 360,500 down from 361,750. Workers receiving continuing unemployment benefits for the week ending February 16th increased by 21,000 to 2,807,000, up from the week before which saw a revised total of 2,786,000. A four week moving average of continuing claims increased 24,250 from last week to 2,777,500. Last week's moving average registered 2,753,250.
