Australian unemployment rate edges up 0.1% in March.
The Australian Labour force increased by a seasonally adjusted 14,800 workers from February to March according to a data release by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. March's increase brings the total of employed workers to 10,681,600 while unemployment also increased by 13,800 workers to 453,200. The Australian unemployment rate edged upwards by 0.1 percent to 4.1 percent in March. The unemployment rate has fallen by 0.4 percent in a years time from March 2007 to March 2008 while the number of employed workers has increased by 2.9 percent in the same period. The number of unemployed workers has dropped by 6.8 percent from March 2007 to March 2008.
UK trade deficit narrows
The United Kingdom's international trade deficit narrowed in February according to data from National Statistics(UK). The U.K. had a trade deficit of £4.4 billion in February after a revised deficit of £5.0 billion in January. U.K. exports decreased by less than £0.1 billion and imports also decreased by less than £0.5 billion. The U.K. had a surplus on trade in services of £3.0 billion and a deficit on trade in services of £7.5 billion.
Canadian international merchandise trade increases in Feb.
Canada's international merchandise trade balance registered a trade surplus in February according to data from Statistics Canada. Canada's trade surplus increased to C$4.9 billion in February after a surplus of C$2.8 billion in January and marked the largest monthly surplus in almost a year. Boosting the surplus was a 3.8 percent rise in merchandise exports as Canada exported C$39.3 billion worth of merchandise in February. Cars and energy products combined to total C$15.8 billion worth of exports for the month of February. Canada's trade surplus with the U.S. increased to C$8.1 billion as exports to the U.S. increased by 3.6 percent.
