Eurozone Retail Sales decrease in February by 0.5%.
Eurozone Retail Sales decreased in February according to a news release by EuroStat earlier today. February retail sales declined 0.5 percent in the 15 country Eurozone after increasing by a revised 0.5 percent in January. The retail sales decline was unexpected as market forecasts had expected sales to increase by 0.2 percent for February. February's retail sales numbers are 0.2 percent below February 2007's level. Germany showed the biggest fall in sales among member countries with a 3.1 percent decline followed by Spain with a 2.6 percent decline. The highest increase in retail sales among members of the EU15 was Finland with a gain of 7.0 percent. Eurozone sales of food, drinks and tobacco decreased by 0.2 percent in February and are 0.9 percent below the February 2007 level.
